Body Fat Weight Scales
Today, more people are overweight and obese then ever before. What
is alarming is that childhood obesity is becoming an American trend.
This is a new condition that requires a new approach to diet, nutrition,
and exercise. One reason for the growing concern is that more people
live sedentary lives, including children. Whether it is the television,
video games, or computers people of all ages are less active then
they were in previous generations.
In the past, people simply counted calories and weighed themselves
on scales daily to monitor any changes in their weight. However,
recent scientific data has shown that this isn’t the most
accurate way to determine health and fitness levels. For instance,
many people may weigh more then their ideal weight, but be comprised
of muscle. It is a proven fact that muscle weighs more than fat,
and someone may mistakenly believe that they are overweight, when
in fact they are toned, muscular, and in great health. There are
a number of different diseases and health concerns that are directly
related to having too much body fat. Some of these conditions include:
· Diabetes
· High Blood Pressure
· Arthritis
· Stroke
· Heart Disease
· Strokes
· Certain Cancers
Therefore, it is important to determine what your body fat levels
are so you can remain in good health. Knowing your body fat measurements,
you can make the necessary dietary and lifestyle adjustments to
lose the excess fat.
One of the best ways to determine how much body fat you have is
to use a scale that is specifically designed for measuring your
percentage of body fat. These scales are known as Bioelectric Impedance
Analysis, or BIA. Where a conventional scale measures body weight,
a BIA scale measure body fat. BIA is considered to be one of the
most accurate weighs to measure your percentage of body fat. BIA
works by sending a very small electrical current through your body,
which in turn determines you’re the total amount of water
in your body. By reading the amount of water in your body, the scale
then uses a mathematical formula based upon your gender, age, weight,
height, and electrical resistance to determine how much body fat
you have.
At first, the idea of sending an electrical current throughout
your body to measure your percentage of body fat may seem dangerous,
rest assured it is safe. The signal that is transmitted is very
weak and is not felt. However, as a precaution, it is recommended
that people who have any type of medical implant device or a pacemaker
should not use a BIA device. It is also not recommended for pregnant
women to use the BIA weight scale.
When measuring your body fat with a BIA weight scale, you should
ensure that you test every day at a regular time, and take the test
when you are well hydrated and have an empty bladder. Never take
your measurements directly after eating or bathing. Waiting at least
two hours past your last meal is sufficient for ensuring that you
have an accurate measurement. Another way to measure body fat is
to use digital
body fat calipers.
